Diet
Southern walking leaf frog's diet is primarily composed of small arthropods. It specifically shows a marked preference for ants and termites, skilfully capturing them with its long, sticky tongue.
Appearance
Southern walking leaf frog is a medium-sized frog with a vertically flattened body. Its skin, covered with a waxy layer, is generally bright green, sometimes with small white spots on the back. Noteworthy features of this species include its large eyes and slim limbs, relative to its body size. A significant sexual dimorphism is the larger size and robustness of males compared to females.
Behavior
Southern walking leaf frog is primarily arboreal, seeking shelter in trees during the day. It is known for its distinct breeding behavior, using water bodies to lay eggs in foam nests. Its brightly colored undersides serve as a predator deterrent, a behavior known as 'flash coloration'. Solitary outside breeding seasons, males become territorial during mating periods.
