Diet
Golden poison dart frog prominently feeds on small insects, particularly ants and mites. Its dietary preference, rich in alkaloids, facilitates this frog's unique capacity to secrete highly potent toxins.
Appearance
Golden poison dart frog is a small frog with a slender body, measuring up to 5 cm in length. It's smooth skin boasts a brilliantly vivid yellow color, acting as a warning sign to predators. Its legs and belly are mottled black. While size and coloration remain constant across age and gender, the remarkable fluorescence sets this species apart from many others.
Behavior
Known for its lethal skin toxin, golden poison dart frog is a solitary creature with noteworthy behavior patterns. Communal in breeding, they lay eggs in leaf litter which later migrate to water bodies. Their vivid hue serves both as camouflage amid leafy terrestrial habitat and as a warning signal. Predominantly insectivorous, they exhibit 'sit-and-wait' foraging strategy rather than active pursuit. Their defense mechanism includes postural display and toxic secretions.
