Diet

Striped poison dart frog feeds predominantly on small insects and arachnids, with a particular preference for ants and mites. The unique toxicity of its diet contributes significantly to its own potent defense mechanisms.

Appearance

Striped poison dart frog is a small-sized ground-dwelling frog with a sleek, slimy skin. It is spotlighted for its rich black or dark brown body color, lightened by starkly contrasting yellow or greenish-yellow dorsal stripes. The difference in hue is not significant across genders or ages. Striped poison dart frog conspicuously lacks extended physical features like wings or a tail.

Behavior

Striped poison dart frog is a diurnal and familial species, primarily engaging in cooperative breeding. This amphibian exhibits strict territoriality, rigorously defending its leaf-litter dwelling from intrusion. Striped poison dart frog's communication is through loud distinctive calls, used to signal danger or steer off rivals. Notably, both parents assist in tadpole rearing, including transportation to water-filled bromeliads for safety.
