Description

A specialist of arid environments, phrynosoma orbiculare orientale has adapted to conserve water by excreting nitrogenous wastes as uric acid rather than urea. Additionally, phrynosoma orbiculare orientale has a rather unusual defense mechanism, by expelling a foul-tasting blood from its eyes; this not only deters predators but also helps to distract and disorient them, providing the lizard with a chance to escape.
