Description
Phrynocephalus versicolor, the variegated toadhead agama, is a species of agamid lizard found in desert areas of China and Mongolia. It was first described by the Russian herpetologist Alexander Strauch, director of the Zoological Museum at the Imperial Academy of Sciences at St. Petersburg.

Tuvan toad-headed agama is primarily insectivorous, feeding mainly on various forms of insects. This encompasses everything from beetles to caterpillars, along with spiders and worms, which form a significant portion of its daily intake.
Appearance
Tuvan toad-headed agama is a small atop skinned reptile with a flattened, round body and short, sturdy legs. Its skin exhibits an enthralling pattern, comprising of a mix of sandy, brown, and beige hues, allowing excellent desert camouflage. Unique dark blotches adorn its back and sides. Young ones possess more radiant coloration, which dims over time. Males can be distinguished by brighter belly colors during the breeding season.
Behavior
The tuvan toad-headed agama is a diurnal, solitary and territorial reptile. It feeds largely on ants and beetles, exercising a sit-and-wait hunting style. Most peculiarly, the tuvan toad-headed agama performs an oscillatory display to scare off predators or intruders — a characteristic 'dance'. This species is adapted for survival in harsh desert conditions.
