The Djungarian hamster is usually seven to nine centimeters long and 19 to 45 grams. The soft fur on the top is ash gray to dark brown with a black-brown eel streak in summer. The fur on the underside is whitish. It runs upwards in three arches on the sides of the body and is delimited from the fur on the top by a line of black-brown hair. In winter, the fur is partially or completely white.
