Diet
Desert hamster predominately relies on plant matter, particularly seeds and grains. Yet, it can also consume small quantities of insects and other protein-rich foods, indicating an omnivorous dietary habit.
Appearance
Desert hamster is a small, round-bodied rodent, measuring around 5 centimeters in length. It has soft, dense fur that is generally sandy-brown with a white belly. Its trademark features are its large, prominent eyes, short tail, and extremely fast movements. There are no notable physical differences based on age, gender, or subspecies.
Behavior
Desert hamster, the smallest rodent species, undertakes nocturnal and frenetic activities, varying from foraging, burrowing, to grooming. Known for its rapid, uninterrupted movement, it seldomly rests even during sleep. It lives solitarily or in pairs but possesses no inherent territorial tendencies, often cohabiting peacefully within overlapping domiciles. Possessing few self-defense mechanisms, its rapid locomotion aids survival in vast often hostile habitats.
