Description
Standing's day gecko (Phelsuma standingi) is an arboreal and diurnal species of gecko. The species is endemic to southwest Madagascar; it is threatened by illegal collection for the international pet trade and habitat loss. It is among the largest living species of day geckos. Standing's day gecko feeds on insects and nectar.

Standing's day gecko are omnivorous by nature. A substantial part of their diet consists of insects and other small arthropods, supplemented with nectar and soft fruits occasionally. Reliant on a high protein intake, juveniles consume more insects than adults.
Appearance
Standing's day gecko is a sizable gecko, reaching lengths of up to 30 cm. Its body is elongated with a flat belly, equipped with smooth and shiny scales. The reptile sports a dazzling turquoise-blue colour with an intricate pattern of red, orange or brown on its back and tail. No significant differences in appearances are observed due to age, gender, or subspecies.
Behavior
Standing's day gecko is a diurnal, arboreal reptile known for its basking and territorial behaviors. Observed mostly singly or in pairs, males of this species display their dominance via physical posturing or intense color changes, and they defend their territories vigilantly. With adaptations for tree-dwelling, they are swift climbers and hunters.
