General Info
Lifespan
8-10 years
Diet
Thicktail day gecko predominantly feeds on insects, with a particular preference for small fruit flies (Drosophilidae). However, this species also supplements its diet with nectar and ripe fruits, ensuring balanced nutrition.
Appearance
The thicktail day gecko is a small gecko with a slender body and smooth, scaly skin. This reptile boasts a primary coloration of bright green, interspersed with subtle blotches of blue and red. Notably, it has a long, thin tail, and small wings which help it dash across tree barks. No significant visual differences can be observed due to age, gender, or subspecies.
Behavior
Thicktail day gecko is primarily diurnal, active during the day, and arboreal, mostly living in trees. Noted for its sun-basking behavior, it maximizes exposure to sunlight to raise body temperature for optimal physiological functioning. This solitary gecko defends its territory from rivals through tail-thrashing and even biting.
