Description
The Sahara frog (Pelophylax saharicus) is a species of frog in the family Ranidae. It is native to Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Spanish North Africa (Ceuta and Melilla), and Western Sahara; it has also been introduced to Gran Canaria. In French it is called grenouille verte d'Afrique du Nord, and in Spanish it is known as rana verde norteafricana.

Appearance

Its colors range from brown to sandy-yellow, often featuring darker spots scattered across the body, providing perfect camouflage in its arid environment. The body has elongated hind legs, which are adapted for jumping, and the fingers and toes are partially webbed. There are no significant differences in appearance between genders or ages.
Behavior
Sahara frog shows predominantly nocturnal activity, hunting small invertebrates for nourishment. This species is renowned for its remarkably spectacular explosive mating strategy, gathering in sizeable clusters in aquatic environments. During this period, males engage in a vigorous visual display, contesting mates and territory, enhancing their survival within their typical desert habitats.
