Diet
Amur softshell turtle exhibits an omnivorous diet, but shows a marked preference for aquatic fare including small fish and crustaceans. Occasional consumption of water plants and insects supplement its diet.
Appearance
Amur softshell turtle is a small to medium-sized turtle with an oval, somewhat flattened body. Its shell is brown to olive-green, sometimes with faint patterns or spots. It possesses a short tail and has thick, leathery skin. Unlike many other turtle species, there are no significant differences in size or coloration due to age, gender, or subspecies.
Behavior
Amur softshell turtle exhibits a semi-aquatic lifestyle, spending significant time both in water and on land. This solitary species is known for its burrowing behavior, using its sharp claws to dig underground nests. Interestingly, amur softshell turtle's diet primarily consists of mollusks, which it finds by active foraging. During breeding season, the female exhibits unique nest-guarding behavior, ensuring the survival of her offspring.
