  The Chinese warty newt (Paramesotriton chinensis) is a species of salamander in the Salamandridae family. It is found only in China, with a range extending from Chongqing to Hunan, Anhui, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, and Guangxi Provinces in Central China. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, rivers, and freshwater marshes. It is threatened by habitat loss. Female Chinese warty newts reach total length of 151Â mm (5.9Â in), males are slightly shorter

 Hong kong warty newt are primarily carnivores, relying on a diet rich in small invertebrates like worms, snails and insects. The dietary intake also consists of various amphibian larvae, providing essential nutrients for growth and survival. 
   Appearance
 Hong kong warty newt is a medium-sized newt with a slim, elongated body. Its skin is smooth and lustrous, displaying a dominant dark brown or black colouration. Most prominently noticed are yellowish-orange spots or stripes running along its dorsal and lateral sides. This newt's tail is flattened, contributing significantly to its total length. Of note, there are no known distinct physical differences between sexes or age groups within this species. 
   Behavior
 Hong kong warty newt is largely a nocturnal, semi-aquatic species. Not typically social, this species exhibits a solitary lifestyle except during breeding season. Hong kong warty newt is known for its territorial behavior, often vocal, marking territories in aquatic areas by releasing pheromones. In its natural habitat, hong kong warty newt displays a unique hiding behavior beneath rocks or leaf litters to avoid predators.
