Diet
Olive baboon has an omnivorous diet largely consisting of grasses. Often supplementing their diet with seeds, blossoms, leaves, roots, and small invertebrates, this species exhibits adaptable and varied feeding behaviors.
Appearance
Olive baboon is a medium-sized primate with a robust build and covered in coarse fur. Its body is predominantly grey, turning darker on the head and back. A distinguishing feature is a prominent mane around the neck. There's a slight size difference between males and females, with males being larger and sporting pronounced cheek pads.
Behavior
Olive baboon display gregarious behavior, living in both matrilineal and multi-male social groups. These groups have complex, socially learned behaviors, including grooming and foraging together. Notably, successful males use calculated strategies, rather than brute force, to gain and maintain dominance. This species also shows unusual adaptations for terrestrial life, including large body size and a preference for ground-feeding.
