Description
The Indian roofed turtle (Pangshura tecta) is a species of turtle in the Geoemydidae family. It can be distinguished by the distinct "roof" at the topmost part of the shell. It is found in the major rivers of South Asia. It is a common pet in the Indian Subcontinent.

Appearance
The indian roofed turtle is a medium-sized turtle species, covered in tough, rectangular sections of carapace with a light olive color and darker, irregular spots. Its plastron is cream with black blotches. The head exhibits distinct yellow stripes, while its neck, limbs, and tail are uniformly dark colored. Males are generally smaller with a concave plastron, longer, thicker tails, and are more brightly patterned than females.
Behavior
Indian roofed turtle demonstrates semi-aquatic tendencies, frequenting both land and water. With carnivorous leanings, it focuses on aquatic invertebrates and mollusks for foraging. Being primarily diurnal, it works diligently during daylight hours but has less activity at night. Although not markedly territorial, indian roofed turtle tends to lead a solitary existence, devoid of significant social interaction, a behavior key to its survival in natural habitats.
