Lifespan
5-10 years
Diet
Ocellated gecko chiefly sustains on small invertebrates, specifically insects and spiders. Its dietary specialization rests on its agile hunting technique, making it a nocturnal predator in arid habitats.
Appearance
The ocellated gecko is a small-sized gecko characterized by its smooth, pebbly skin. It exhibits a muted blend of tawny, beige and grey hues, providing exceptional camouflage against rocky terrains. Its body is robust with thick, well-muscled tail and broad, strong limbs. Notably, the ocellated gecko wears scattered dark spots across its dorsal region. There are no significant differences in appearance due to age, gender, or subspecies.
Behavior
Ocellated gecko is a nocturnal, solitary reptile that spends daytime periods secluded in rock crevices. It displays a sit-and-wait predation strategy, feeding mainly on invertebrates. Though generally non-territorial, males may exhibit aggressive behavior towards intruders. Unique among geckos, ocellated gecko uses body contortions and tail vibrations for communication.
