Diet
The arabian oryx is predominantly a herbivore, subsisting mainly on grasses. However, this adaptable species also consumes a range of vegetation types, including herbs, shrubs, and succulents when primary food sources are scarce.
Appearance
The arabian oryx is a large antelope with a slender, muscular body and short, waxy fur. Its coloration is primarily white, offset by contrasting dark legs, chest, and face. Two lengthy, straight horns reach skyward from its brow, a characteristic shared by both males and females. Juveniles feature subtle brown shading that gradually lighten as they age.
Behavior
Arabian oryx displays unique desert adaptations, with nocturnal, energy-conserving behavior. This animal, often solitary, will form loose groups in favourable conditions. Arabian oryx marks territory using preorbital gland secretions on shrubs. Its most notable survival behaviour involves digging for water in dried riverbeds.
