Description
Oreophrynella quelchii, commonly known as the Roraima black frog or Roraima bush toad, is a species of toad in the family Bufonidae. This species is restricted to the transboundary summit of Mount Roraima in Venezuela, Guyana and Brazil, and to the nearby Wei-Assipu-tepui on the BrazilâGuyana border. It has been recorded at elevations of 2,300â2,800Â m (7,500â9,200Â ft) above sea level.

Its defining feature is its short, upturned snout. This species exhibits no noticeable differences in appearance based on age, gender or subspecies.
Behavior
The roraima black frog is a solitary, nocturnal species displaying arboreal tendencies. Living high in the tepuis, it survives extreme conditions using its unique armor-like skin for insulation and enduring cold periods by slowing metabolic rates. Largely a sit-and-wait predator, roraima black frog pounces on unsuspecting insect prey that pass close by. Notably, this species doesn't vocalize in communication or mating, differing from most anuran species.
