Description
The harlequin poison frog, also known as harlequin poison-dart frog (Oophaga histrionica), is a species of poison dart frog endemic to the Chocó region of western Colombia. The frog is normally found on the ground of tropical rain forests, among fallen limbs or leaf litter.

Diet
Kokoe-pa poison dart frog thrives on a diet solely comprised of small invertebrates, particularly ants and mites. Notably, it selectively feeds on species rich in alkaloids to produce its potent defensive toxins.
Appearance
Kokoe-pa poison dart frog is a small-sized frog with a streamlined body shape and smooth skin. Exhibiting a vibrant coloration, it features varying patterns of red, yellow, and black, divergent among individuals and populations. It lacks noticeable wings, horns or tails. Sexual dimorphism is less evident, with females being slightly larger. Subspecies exhibit different colors and patterns, making each uniquely identifiable.
Behavior
Kokoe-pa poison dart frog exhibits an intriguing parental behavior; the female feeds her tadpoles unfertilized eggs. Dominantly territorial, they defend their territory with acoustic signals and physical confrontations. This species lives mostly solitary, only pairing up for mating. Adapted to arboreal life, they are known for their excellent climbing abilities.
