Diet
Ocellated velvet gecko typically has an insectivorous diet consisting primarily of arthropods. It has been observed to show a fondness for moths and spiders, exploiting its ability to adhere to vertical surfaces to catch such prey.
Appearance
Ocellated velvet gecko is a medium-sized gecko with a robust body shape. Its skin, covered in small granular scales, is predominantly a striking creamy-white color, contrasted by dark brown or black bands ringing its body. On some individuals, these bands form a striking necklace-like pattern. Its tail, thick and elongated, often bears the same banded pattern. There are no significant gender or age-related variations in its appearance.
Behavior
Ocellated velvet gecko is a predominantly nocturnal species, characterized by its solitary and territorial nature. It has specific rock crevice dwelling behavior, using these spaces for hiding and regulating their body temperature. Males notably display defensive behavior, warding off rivals by gaping mouth threats. Ocellated velvet gecko also exhibits distinctive mating rituals, with complex tactile communication through tail tapping.
