Diet
White-nosed coati's diet is primarily omnivorous, with a significant inclination towards fruits. It also consumes invertebrates, small vertebrates, and bird eggs. Seasonal availability of food resources may influence its dietary habits.
Appearance
White-nosed coati is a medium-sized mammal with a long slender body, curved claws, and a bushy ringed tail. It has short, dense fur that's predominantly brownish-grey with lighter underparts. Its distinguishing feature is an elongated snout similar to a raccoon's. There's no notable difference in appearance across ages, genders, or subspecies.
Behavior
White-nosed coati exhibits diurnal behavior, actively foraging mainly in the morning and late afternoon. Marked by social vivacity, this species forms co-ed bands of related individuals, engaging in collective grooming and feeding. Uniquely, white-nosed coati is known for its 'nose-touching' greeting behavior. Their territorial marking involves rubbing, scratching, and defecating at strategic locations within their home range.
