Description
Nanorana pleskei (common names: Songpan slow frog, Pleske's high altitude frog, plateau frog) is a species of frog in the Dicroglossidae family. Until recently it has been only known from southwestern/central western China (Yunnan, Sichuan, Qinghai, southeastern Gansu) from elevations between 3,300â4,500Â m (10,800â14,800Â ft), but there is now one record also from Bhutan. Notice, however, that earlier records outside China have turned out to be misidentifications

Diet
Plateau frog's diet consists largely of invertebrates, predominantly insects and worms. These findings, derived from stomach content analyses, indicate a preference for capturing and consuming small, soft-bodied prey.
Appearance
Plateau frog is a medium-sized frog with rough, ridged skin. Notable for its ash-gray coloration, it sports occasional splashes of dark-green or black, marking its back and flanks. Females are significantly larger than males, with thicker bodies. The species does not have any prominent tails, horns, or wings.
Behavior
Plateau frog exhibits solitary, non-aggressive behavior, typically residing in high-altitude freshwater habitats. It adopts a sit-and-wait hunting strategy, employing crypsis as a survival tactic against predators. Territorial behavior is largely absent within this species, likely due to the remoteness and harshness of its environment.
