Equatorial spitting cobra (Naja sumatrana) also called the black spitting cobra, Malayan spitting cobra, golden spitting cobra, or Sumatran spitting cobra, is a species of spitting cobra found in Southeast Asia.

Diet
Black spitting cobra's diet consists primarily of small rodents, especially rats. It also eats amphibians, birds, and other snakes when rodent supply is low, using its lethal venom to immobilize its prey.
Appearance
Black spitting cobra is a medium-sized snake with sleek, glossy scales. It has a strong body, capable of both terrestrial and arboreal movement. The snake is predominately black, featuring a unique white marking on its hood. When threatened, black spitting cobra displays its hood, revealing a bright red-orange color underneath. No significant visual differences occur due to age, gender or subspecies.
Behavior
Black spitting cobra exhibits nocturnal and crepuscular habits, primarily hunting during the cooler twilight hours. While mostly terrestrial, it also shows arboreal tendencies. Notably solitary, it exhibits aggressive posturing when threatened. Black spitting cobra's feeding strategy involves delivering venomous bites to immobilize prey and swallowing it whole.
