Diet
Carpet python is predominantly a carnivore, preying chiefly on small mammals and birds. Particular preference is shown for nocturnal species such as rats, though diet may vary with habitat. The occasional consumption of reptiles and frogs diversifies its dietary portfolio.
Appearance
Carpet python is a large, slender snake with a complex geometrical pattern on its skin. They exhibit vast variations of hues from gold and black to greenish-yellow and silver-grey. This snake's skin is smooth and scaly, with a shiny, almost polished look. Juveniles are generally more brightly colored than adults. Their elongated body ends in a thin, powerful tail. The gender and subspecies do not affect their physical appearance significantly.
Behavior
Carpet python is a nocturnal, solitary species, known for its arboreal lifestyle. It primarily hunts at night, taking advantage of its excellent camouflage for ambushing prey. During the day, it typically nests in trees or in hollow logs. Carpet python is a non-territorial species, with individuals occupying overlapping home ranges. This species exhibits a passive defensive behavior, usually curling into a tight ball when threatened.
