Description
Vipera xanthina is a venomous viper species found in northeastern Greece and Turkey, as well as certain islands in the Aegean Sea. No subspecies are currently recognized.

Coastal viper is mainly a carnivorous species, feeding predominantly on small mammals such as voles and mice. Appearance
Coastal viper is a medium-sized snake with a viperine body shape, characterized by a wide head and a slim body covered in hard, keeled scales. Its overall coloration ranges from soft grey to brown, adorned with dark, zigzagging patterns. Juveniles exhibit brighter colors which darken with age. Male and female snakes are similar in appearance, with variations mainly found in size.
Behavior
Coastal viper is largely nocturnal and most active at dawn and dusk. It exhibits a solitary nature, with interactions primarily occurring for mating. The species is territorial and uses postures, hissing, and biting to defend its domain. Coastal viper tends to hunt by ambushing prey, utilizing its natural camouflage to blend with rocky terrains.
