Diet
Stejneger's paddy frog predominantly consumes small invertebrates found near aquatic environments. Laden in its diet are insects, crustaceans, and mollusks which it actively forages for during night time.
Appearance
Stejneger's paddy frog is small, with a streamlined amphibian body covered in smooth, moist skin. It's primarily dark brown, becoming lighter on the belly with occasional irregular dark patches. Males are distinguished by their black vocal sacs. This species doesn't have any external horns, wings or tails. Although there's little size difference between genders, females may appear slightly bulkier.
Behavior
Stejneger's paddy frog is a predominantly nocturnal species, favoring habitats with dense leaf litter which it traverses to forage for small insects and crustaceans. This species is not social, displaying a solitary behavior. Unlike its frogressors, stejneger's paddy frog employs a unique escape tactic, leaping and spinning to confuse predators. It demonstrates considerable territoriality, and song vocalizations are a common form of territorial establishment and defense.
