General Info
Lifespan
15-20 years
Diet
Black-tailed marmoset is predominantly frugivorous, gorging mainly on ripe fruits. However, its diet isn't strictly limited and includes small insects, floral nectars, and plant exudates, helping maintain a balanced nutrition.
Appearance
Black-tailed marmoset is a small primate with a slender body and dense fur. Its coat is primarily black with conspicuous white patches on its rump and inner thighs. Black-tailed marmoset's tail is long, often twice the body's length, and typically exhibits black and white banding. Noticeably, it has large circled ears. However, unlike many primates, there are no distinctive variations in appearance due to age, gender, or subspecies.
Behavior
Black-tailed marmoset shows a social, diurnal lifestyle with an emphasis on arboreal activities. This species is notable for its complex vocalizations used for social interactions and territorial disputes. Unique to this animal is its cooperative breeding behavior, with multiple individuals assisting in rearing young. One of their dominant survival strategies is interspecies foraging, where black-tailed marmoset forms groups with other species to locate food more efficiently.
