Diet
Black caiman's primary food source is fish, complemented by crustaceans, small mammals, and bird species. The creature is known to be opportunistic, seizing prey visiting or residing in its aquatic habitat.
Appearance
The black caiman is a large, robust crocodilian with a long, flat snout and powerful, muscular tail. Its skin is almost entirely black, giving it its name, with a rough, leathery texture. Younger individuals exhibit dark bands across the body and tail but these fade with age. Notable features include its exceptionally long, sharp teeth, visible even when the mouth is closed. There's no significant difference in appearance between genders.
Behavior
Black caiman is largely nocturnal and solitary, with territorial males aggressively defending prime basking spots from rivals. Their primary diet is aquatic, hunting smaller vertebrates and carrion opportunistically. Mating behavior entails male dominance contests, vocalizations, and ppivotal 'death rolls'.
