Diet
Asian horned frog primarily consumes a carnivorous diet, specializing in small invertebrates. It particularly favours various species of insects, though it won't shy away from spiders, worms, and other tiny creatures when available.
Appearance
Asian horned frog is a medium-sized amphibian with a bulky, warty body. Its skin is rough and typically varies between a mossy green to brown color, allowing it to blend seamlessly with its leaf-littered environment. Most distinctive are its triangular-shaped head and large, horn-like protrusions above its eyes, contributing to its common name as a horned frog. No major differences exist in the appearance between different sexes or ages.
Behavior
Asian horned frog is primarily solitary and nocturnal, spending the day under leaves and hunting insects at night. It employs a distinctive 'sit-and-wait' ambush style, using its excellent camouflage to blend into leaf litter. Males protect their territory, calling loudly to ward off rivals and attract mates.
