Lifespan
8-10 years
Diet
Arboreal mantella primarily feeds on small invertebrates - a carnivore with a preference for ants and mites. They rely on their potent skin toxins to paralyse their prey before consumption.
Appearance
Arboreal mantella is a small frog with a slender body and smooth, damp skin. Its prime coloration is bright orange, though it also exhibits black bands around its limbs and a white underbelly. Adult males may sometimes exhibit a slightly darker hue. Notably, no significant variation is found among subspecies or with age. Whilst compact, it carries a vivacious visual appeal through its luminous tones.
Behavior
Arboreal mantella is a solitary creature, often found singly residing in the leaf litter of rainforests. It's noted for its effective camouflage and daily hunting for small arthropods. This species has highly territorial behavior, aggressively using vocal signals to warn off intruders. Its unique survival behavior involves toxic secretions, utilizing the toxins in its diet from ants and mites, which deters predators.
