Appearance
Eastern montpellier snake is a large snake, slender and sleek with smooth scales. Its body is predominantly green with varying hues, marked by robust black transversal bands. Notably, its head exhibits an elongated, tapered shape, distinguished by a dark cap extend to the neck. No significant morphological differences arise due to age, gender or subspecies.
Behavior
Eastern montpellier snake is predominantly a nocturnal hunter, mainly feeding on lizards and rodents. This solitary species is known for its 'strike-and-release' predation strategy, where it envenoms its prey and then tracks it using its Jacobson's organ. Interestingly, eastern montpellier snake displays a defensive behavior known as 'mock striking' where it strikes without actually opening its mouth when threatened.
