Diet
Toque macaque is predominantly herbivorous, with a diet primarily centered around fruit. Nevertheless, this species does not solely rely on fruit, incorporating seeds, leaves, flowers, and insects into their diet when seasonally available for substantial nutrition.
Appearance
Toque macaque is a small to medium-sized primate with a somewhat lean body covered in fur that ranges from yellowish-brown to dark brown. The underside is typically paler, and the face is black, hairless, and expressive. Males exhibit a small mane on the neck and slightly larger upper canine teeth. The tail is noticeably short compared to body size, unique to this species.
Behavior
Toque macaque exhibits a diurnal and arboreal lifestyle, typically forming matrilineal social units called troops. It is a prolific forager, with a diet predominantly composed of fruit, supplemented by insects, leaves, and seeds. This species marks and defends its territory, especially during the fruiting season. It shows considerable agility and swift behaviour for survival in its natural woodland and forest habitat.
