Description
Southern pig monkeys owe their name to the pig-like tail. Their fur is short and olive-brown or greyish-colored on the top, the underside is whitish. On the head they have a dark cap on the top, the cheek and whiskers can be colored white. Her hairless face is dark pink. They reach a head hull length of 43 to 77 centimeters and a weight of 5 to 14 kilograms, making them one of the larger macaque species. As with most animals of their genus, the males become around a third larger than the females. They carry the short tail, around 15 to 25 centimeters long, curled forward.

Appearance
Southern pig-tailed macaque is a medium-sized primate with a robust body and short powerful limbs. It has dense, coarse fur, predominantly dark brown, with a lighter, often pinkish face without fur. A defining feature is its long, thick tail. There are no significant differences in coloration or size based on age, gender, or subspecies, however, males tend to be slightly heavier than females.
Behavior
Southern pig-tailed macaque, a social species, exhibits distinctive grooming and foraging habits. With a hierarchical society led by a dominant male, grooming is central to group bonding and social interaction. Southern pig-tailed macaque patches are regularly marked and fiercely defended.
