Description
The Eurasian lynx has been heavily persecuted for centuries; systematic extermination attempts began in Europe in the late Middle Ages. After the species had largely disappeared from Western and Central Europe at the beginning of the 20th century, it migrated from neighboring settlement areas again from around 1950 and was also specifically resettled. Today the Alps, the Jura, the Vosges, the Harz, the Fichtelgebirge, the Bavarian Forest, the Rothaar Mountains, the Bohemian Forest and the Spessart von Luchsen are populated. According to the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation's red list, the lynx is still considered to be very endangered in Germany (status 2).

Diet
Eurasian lynx is a carnivorous species that primarily feeds on ungulates such as roe deer and reindeer. It also preys on small mammals like hares, voles, and squirrels, and occasionally birds and fish.
Appearance
Eurasian lynx is a medium-sized cat with a robust body and short tail. It features long legs and large webbed and furred paws. Its fur, thick and silver-grey with black markings, appears more reddish in the summer months. Notable distinctions include tufted ears and a ruffed face with a white patch under the neck. The males are slightly larger with more prominent tufts and ruffs.
Behavior
Eurasian lynx is a nocturnal, solitary predator, adapted to stalking and ambushing prey. Intricately groomed fur enhances insulation in harsh climates. Eurasian lynx marks territory with its scent, maintaining robust spatial boundaries. As a non-migratory animal, it stays within its large home range all year round.
