Liolaemus tenuis, known as the jewel lizard, is a species of lizard in the family Iguanidae. Other names are slender lizard and thin lizard. It is endemic to Chile.

Appearance

It has a rounded snout, long limbs, and a pointed tail. Males are larger and more brightly colored than females. This variation is less prominent in juveniles.
Behavior
Jewel lizard displays a diagonal gait locomotion, which aids in efficient climbing through a variety of terrains. This species is diurnal, highly territorial, and largely solitary. The females uniquely lay eggs in substrate tunnels and are exceptionally protective until hatchlings emerge. Jewel lizard also demonstrates a vivid throat-fanning defense mechanism when faced with threats.
