Diet
Lesser swamp frog's diet mainly entails small invertebrates, particularly arthropods. This species plunges in aquatic habitats to forage, skillfully pinning down crustaceans. Minute insects and their larvae also supplement its distinctive diet.
Appearance
Lesser swamp frog is a medium-sized frog with a robust and sturdy frame. Its skin is visibly granulose and varies from dark brown to muddy green, often with lighter mottling. Its head is broad with a pointed snout, while noteworthy features include a pair of elongated tibial glands in the hind limbs. Physical characteristics are generally uniform across genders and ages.
Behavior
Lesser swamp frog is characterized by its nocturnal and occasionally solitary behavior. The species exhibits a crepuscular activity pattern, primarily becoming active at dusk. Its survival in natural habitats relies on its remarkable ability to stay camouflaged, aiding in both foraging and predator evasion. There is limited data on its territorial behaviors and social dynamics, marking a potential field for further study.
