  Liasis fuscus is a non-venomous python species found in Australia and Papua New Guinea. No subspecies are currently recognized.

 Brown water python is carnivorous, predominantly consuming small mammals. It has a preference for prey species such as rats and bats, skillfully exploiting their habitats for sustenance. Its opportunistic feeding behavior also includes birds and their eggs. 
   Appearance
 The brown water python is a robust, medium to large size olive-brown python with dark blotches. Its skin exhibits smooth, glossy scales, typical of pythons. Its head, somewhat distinct from the neck, has prominent, bulging eyes. Younger specimens may be sharply patterned with yellow and brown, but this fades with maturity. No significant variations exist due to age, gender, or subspecies. 
   Behavior
 Brown water python is a nocturnal constrictor, actively foraging for prey primarily in terrestrial habitats. Solitary outside mating season, it shows remarkable burrowing behavior, utilizing natural or self-dug shelters as protection. Displaying an ambush predation strategy, brown water python remains stationary for extended periods, subtly changing its body position for an optimal strike.
