Description

The Iberian hare (Lepus granatensis) is a mammal from the rabbit family (Leporidae). It is found all over the Iberian Peninsula, as far as the northeast, and also in Mallorca.

Granada hare species predominantly feeds on plant matter, consuming a wide range of herbs, grasses, and shrub leaves. This herbivore also supplements its diet with tree bark and twigs, demonstrating adaptability in its feeding habits.
Appearance
Granada hare is a medium-sized mammal with a slender body covered in coarse fur. Its fur is predominantly reddish-brown, with darker patches along the back and lighter underparts. It possesses long, strong hind legs and has a tail that is black on top whist being white underneath. Notably, it has elongated ears that have distinctive black tips. There are no significant differences between the genders or across different life stages.
Behavior
Granada hare is primarily nocturnal, using the cover of darkness to forage for vegetation amongst the grasslands and hills it inhabits. It's solitary by nature, only pursuing social interaction during its March-June mating season. Uniquely, this species does not dig its burrows but rather occupies burrows of other animals or finds shelter in dense vegetation.
