Appearance
The northern cat-eyed snake is a medium-sized snake with a slender body and smooth, glossy scales. Its coloration varies from pale brown to reddish, commonly featuring a series of darker, diamond-shaped marks along the back. It has large, forward-facing eyes with vertical pupils, enhancing their night vision. Among its identifying features are its long, slender tail and a flat, arrow-shaped head. Both sexes have similar appearances, with no distinct differences.
Behavior
Northern cat-eyed snake is a nocturnal creature, actively hunting small vertebrates at night using infrared sensitivity for survival. Its solitary nature makes its social interactions limited. This species shows oviparous behavior, laying eggs instead of giving birth. The unique behavior of 'playing dead' when threatened emphasizes its capability to adapt and escape predation.
