Diet
Pepper frog primarily consumes a diet of insects, making it an insectivore. It is particularly well-adapted to feast on various invertebrates, with ants, beetles, and spiders comprising major portions of their intake.
Appearance
Pepper frog is a large frog with a sturdy body, reaching up to 10 centimeters in length. Its skin is textured, exhibiting varying shades of brown, black, and green, which aids in camouflage. Distinguished by extensive webbing on its hind feet and a prominent glandular ridge across its back, it further exhibits dark stripes or spots on its legs. No significant differences in appearance based on age, gender, or subspecies are known.
Behavior
Pepper frog has unique breeding behaviour. Males construct large foam nests in temporarily flooded areas to attract females. After mating, females lay eggs within these frothy structures, providing protection against predators and dehydration in their aquatic habitat. Solitary outside of the breeding season, this behaviour exemplifies pepper frog's adaptivity to its environment.
