Description
Leptodactylus fuscus is a species of frog in the family Leptodactylidae. Its local names are rana picuda ("woodcock frog") and rana silbador ("whistling frog").

Appearance
Woodcock frog is a medium-sized frog species with a robust, slightly oval body shape. Its skin is warty and rough, most often a brown or reddish-brown coloration, occasionally featuring darker, uneven markings. The underbelly is notably lighter. Males typify a yellowish throat, which is not seen in females. Developed feet end with slender phalanges, lending to its peculiar name.
Behavior
Woodcock frog is primarily nocturnal and terrestrial, known for its burrowing behavior, creating its own shelter in muddy and sandy environments. This species exhibits a unique reproductive habit, building foam nests for egg deposition. High levels of male aggression are noted particularly during reproductive periods. As a survival tactic, it is known to play dead when threatened.
