Diet
The primary diet of serval comprises rodents, like rats and mice. However, they also actively hunt birds, insects, and even amphibians. Interestingly, serval are known to use their long limbs and neck to reach into burrows or crevices to extract their prey.
Appearance
The serval is a medium-sized cat with a slender, elongated body standing on long, slim limbs. Its coat is bright yellow-gold and is spotted with black, while its short tail has black rings. Large, pointed ears uniquely sit atop its round head. Male serval's are noticeably larger and heavier than females. Its most distinctive feature is its leg length, being the longest of any cat compared to body size.
Behavior
Serval displays solitary, nocturnal behavior, hunting mainly at night using strong leaping ability to capture prey. Marking its territory with urine, it utilizes a variety of vocalizations for communication. Notably, serval is not a proficient swimmer, an oddity among cats, reflecting its adaptation to terrestrial savannah habitats.
