Diet

Olive ridley sea turtle primarily feeds in the open ocean, consuming a diet composed largely of jellyfish. This species also exhibits an opportunistic feeding behavior, consuming a variety of crustaceans and mollusks when available.

Appearance

Olive ridley sea turtle is a medium to large-sized sea turtle with a heart-shaped, streamlined carapace. This shell is uniquely characterized by its olive-green color, overlaid with a pattern of irregular streaks and blotches. The turtle's skin is similar in color to the shell, and its body is detailed with small, non-overlapping scales. Paddle-like limbs and a short head with a hooked beak round off an overall efficient, marine-adapted build. No significant visual differences exist between genders or ages.

Behavior

Olive ridley sea turtle are predominantly solitary, making vast oceanic migrations between foraging grounds and nesting areas. They only congregate during the nesting season, where hundreds of females may nest simultaneously, an event known as an 'arribada'. Their unique nesting strategy focuses on quantity, producing multiple clutches in a season, presumably to overwhelm predators with sheer numbers.
