Description
The katta (Lemur catta) is a primate species from the group of lemurs (Lemuriformes). It inhabits dry regions in southwestern Madagascar. At 2.2 to 3.5 kilograms, it is one of the medium-sized lemurs and is unmistakable thanks to its curled tail. Although he is one of the best-known representatives of this primate group, he shows some behavior that is unusual for this group. He is mainly active during the day and spends a lot of time on the ground. He lives in groups of an average of 13 to 15 animals, led by a dominant female. The katta is an omnivore, but mainly feeds on fruit. Habitat destruction and hunting are the main threats to this species on its home island.

Diet
Ring-tailed lemur predominantly subsists on a mix of fruits, flowers, and leaves, with an inclination towards the fruit of the Tamarind tree. During food scarcity, it exhibits adaptability by consuming insects, soil, and even small vertebrates.
Appearance
Ring-tailed lemur are notable for their slender bodies and long tails, sporting thick fur of primarily grey or brown hues. Distinctive black and white facial markings and rings around their long tail add to their unique appearance. Juveniles resemble adults, though at a smaller size, revealing no significant differences in appearance between genders or age groups.
Behavior
Ring-tailed lemur exhibits diurnal foraging behavior, focused primarily on fruits and flowers. Notably, these animals participate in social grooming and sunbathing rituals, reinforcing their societal structure. Ring-tailed lemur displays strong territoriality, with female-dominant groups marking their domain with scent glands. These behaviors are adapted to their arboreal environments.
