Endemic to New Zealand, archey's frog is a small frog that’s critically endangered due to its infrequent breeding, susceptibility to fungal and human-borne diseases, as well as for being an easy target for predators. Able to stand still for many hours, this frog doesn’t have loud calls, but it’s suggested that’s able to communicate through chemicals. Described as a living fossil, this species is the most primitive species of frog in the world.

Lifespan
 20-30 years
   Diet
Archey's frog is predominantly insectivorous, feeding largely on small invertebrates. Special dietary manifestations include an affinity for beetles, spiders, and other moisture-loving arthropods, representing the species' predominant food base.
   Appearance
Archey's frog is a small-sized frog species with delicate skin, exhibiting a combination of varying shades of brown for natural camouflage. Its body features a slim, elongated shape, adorned with rough, perceptibly warty skin texture. Although devoid of discernible features like wings or tails, archey's frog distinguishes itself with its oversized bulging eyes. No significant differences are observed in appearance between genders or age groups.
   Behavior
Archey's frog demonstrates distinct nocturnal behavior, foraging and hunting largely at night. It maintains a solitary lifestyle, only converging for breeding purposes. Characteristic of this species is its unique posture during rest, with body elevated and limbs tucked beneath. Adapted for survival in its damp forest habitat, it often hides under leaf litter or within soft soil. Defensive territorial displays, however, are uncommon.
