Diet
Red-sided curlytail lizard, commonly known as the Red-sided Curlytail Lizard, mainly feeds on arthropods, favoring beetles, spiders, and centipedes. They also include vegetable matter in their diet, embracing a highly generalized and opportunistic feeding behavior.
Appearance
Red-sided curlytail lizard is a medium-sized reptile with elongated, flattened bodies. Its scaly skin predominately exhibits an olive-brown hue, often marred with irregular dark spots or bands. The underbelly is typically pale while males are characterized by a more colorful, patterned throat. Distinctively, the tail is marked with pronounced rings. No significant differences are observed due to age, gender, or subspecies, besides the color variation in males.
Behavior
Red-sided curlytail lizard exhibits a predominantly solitary terrestrial lifestyle, limiting its activities to daylight hours. It's known for its distinctive 'push-up' display used in territorial defense, accompanied by head-bobbing and tail curling. Foraging predominantly on invertebrates and plant material, red-sided curlytail lizard optimizes its survival by its exceptional camouflage in rock crevices, thus evading predators.
