General Info
Lifespan
10-15 years
Diet
Kashmir rock agama are primarily herbivorous, focusing on the consumption of fresh, green vegetation. Favored foods include the leaves, shoots, and flowers of various plants, with an occasional intake of insects for protein supplement.
Appearance
Kashmir rock agama is a medium-sized lizard with a robust, elongated body. Its skin is rough and leathery, equipped with conical tubercles that give a spiky texture. The primary coloration is dusty-brown, which helps in efficient camouflage. Its tail, which is typically twice its body length, is noticeably ringed by dark bands. Mature, dominant males often exhibit brighter, more pronounced colorations and larger head structures. No notable differences exist due to age or subspecies.
Behavior
Kashmir rock agama are predominantly solitary creatures that mark and defend their rocky territory by puffing their bodies and extending their throats. During day, they actively forage for a diet of insects and plants, while their tubercle-adorned scales offer ideal camouflage against their arid habitat. Reproduction is an annual affair, marked by aggressive male combat.
