 The Oaxaca mud turtle (Kinosternon oaxacae) is a species of mud turtle in the family Kinosternidae. It is endemic to Mexico. Both the common name and the scientific name derive from Oaxaca, a Mexican state. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has rated this species as "data deficient" as there is insufficient information available to judge its conservation status.

 Oaxaca mud turtle primarily maintains a carnivorous diet, relishing earthworms, snails, and small aquatic or terrestrial invertebrates. Its food consumption is often interspersed with occasional ingestion of plant matter. 
   Appearance
 Oaxaca mud turtle are small, aquatic turtles with smooth, oval-shaped shells. They have a distinct coloration of olive-brown to dark grey, often with faint patterns. Their skin, visible on their heads, necks, and limbs, resembles their shell's color. A unique feature of these turtles is their hinged plastron (lower shell), which allows them to completely close up for protection. There are no known differences in appearance due to age, gender, or subspecies. 
   Behavior
 Oaxaca mud turtle displays nocturnal tendencies, predominantly active during the night. It favorably feeds on invertebrates while portraying solitary living conditions. It distinctively uses its sharp-edged jaws to crush and consume hard-bodied prey, utilizing a specialized survival tactic in its natural habitat. It lacks apparent signs of territorial behavior.
