Mexican mud turtle (Kinosternon integrum), or Guanajuato mud turtle, is a species of mud turtle in the Kinosternidae family. Endemic to Mexico, it is found in Aguascalientes, Colima, Durango, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacán, Morelos, Nayarit, Oaxaca, Puebla, San Luis PotosÃ, Sinaloa, Sonora, Tamaulipas and Zacatecas.

Mexican mud turtle is essentially omnivorous, with a preference towards aquatic food sources. Its diet extensively comprises of insects, earthworms, and mollusks. It is also known to consume decaying organic matter, ensuring a balanced ecology.
Appearance
Mexican mud turtle is a medium-sized turtle with a carapace length of up to 20 centimeters. It has a robust, almond-shaped shell with a dull brown color and an almost smooth surface. The plastron is hinged, enabling the turtle to withdraw its head, limbs, and tail fully inside its shell for protection. Mexican mud turtle's skin is also brown, and its head features a pointed snout. Males, distinguishable by their larger tails, are typically larger than females.
Behavior
Mexican mud turtle is predominantly nocturnal, hunting for small aquatic invertebrates under the cover of darkness. These turtles display a high degree of territoriality, defending their preferred basking sites vehemently. Though largely solitary, males exhibit aggressive behavior during the breeding season. Mexican mud turtle employs adaptive survival tactics, such as camouflage in muddy underwater environments, to avoid predators.
