   Diet
Kinosternon hirtipes hirtipes is a predominantly carnivorous species, feeding primarily on aquatic invertebrates like snails, crawfish, and insects. However, they are opportunistically omnivorous, occasionally supplementing their diet with algae and vegetation.
   Appearance
The kinosternon hirtipes hirtipes is a small, stout turtle with a carapace length of around 25 cm. It possesses a hard, rigid shell adorned with black-brown color and streaks of yellow. Its head is proportionately large with a pointed snout. Notably, the kinosternon hirtipes hirtipes harbors a barely visible plastron hinge and a slim tail, both hinting towards its semi-aquatic nature. Its skin is rough and bumpy, building a strong layer of defense. There are no substantial differences in appearance among the age groups and sexes.
   Behavior
Kinosternon hirtipes hirtipes are typically solitary, nocturnal creatures, occupying well-defined, individually-marked territories. During the daytime, they remain concealed under vegetation or in burrows. These turtles are primarily carnivorous, feeding on aquatic invertebrates. Mating occurs in water, followed by nesting on land, where the female deposits her eggs in a shallow excavation.
