Description
The striped mud turtle (Kinosternon baurii ) is a species of turtle in the family Kinosternidae. The species is endemic to the southeastern United States.

Striped mud turtle or Three-striped Mud Turtle primarily embraces a carnivorous diet. It exhibits a dietary preference for aquatic fauna, such as insects, crustaceans, mollusks, tadpoles, and small fish. Occasionally, it also consumes aquatic vegetation.
Appearance
The striped mud turtle is a small, highly aquatic turtle with a carapace length of 7.5–12.5 cm. Its highly domed shell, typically dark brown, may carry patches of green or black. The turtle’s plastron is large, hinged, and yellowish. The thighs and tail are surrounded by large, bony plates, and its hind feet are fully webbed. Male striped mud turtle turtle's tail is thicker and longer than the females.
Behavior
Striped mud turtle usually exhibit solitary, nocturnal behavior, becoming active after sunset. This species is specialized for a mostly aquatic lifestyle, displaying bottom-walking and an excellent ability to burrow in soft substrates for hibernation. They feed primarily on mollusks, adapting a 'crushing' feeding behavior due to their strong jaws.
